Pathways for Kids

pathway-logo.PNGPathways for Kids is a San Francisco based non-profit organization founded in 1998. Pathway’s mission is to connect at risk, economically disadvantaged youth with volunteer mentors or “Coaches”, who have achieved success in a wide variety of businesses and professions, to inspire academic achievement and career awareness. Many of our kids have no idea what opportunities exist and if they do, don’t believe they have a chance to achieve them. Pathways is committed to changing that perception.

Pathways’ career mentoring programs encourage young people to cultivate professional skills, pursue higher education and to choose successful and meaningful careers. Pathways sends hundreds of volunteer professionals into San Francisco classrooms. These classroom “Coaches” represent a broad spectrum of disciplines including accounting, advertising, broadcasting, education, government, high tech, green business, real estate, the arts, nursing, sales, social services andgavin-newsome.JPG more.

Pathways’ programs are comprised of three primary segments: Coaches in Classroom, Coaches in the Workplace and Career Fairs. These programs have been built with a strong commitment from local business, community and host school partnerships. To date, the organization has provided mentoring services to thousands of San Francisco’s youth.

MISSION

Pathways for Kids serves to empower San Francisco’s Underserved, Inner-City Youth by exposing them to career opportunities through Mentoring and Motivational Programs, with an emphasis on Entrepreneurialism, Investing, and Capital-Building.

VISION

Founded in 1998 by local business leader, Peter Dwares and like-minded board members, Pathways’ vision is to prepare inner city kids for both higher education and a variety of career options by involving them in career exploration activities – in class, after class, in the workplace and one-on-one – tapping their imagination and motivation and inspiring them to explore their own paths.

Through the ongoing recruitment of volunteer coaches, Pathways also advances philanthropy in our community as participants enjoy the opportunity to give back to the kids by sharing their own experiences.

To date, Pathways’ programs have served over 8,000 kids and we are significantly increasing our exposure every year.
