My name is Roane Holman. I am a student who works to put myself through school. I have been involved with the Pathways for Kids organization for about 2 years now. I was attending City College of San Francisco and trying to work hard and transfer to a UC school. I came to a time of struggle after losing my job and having problems in my classes. I didn’t know what to do; I felt hopeless, like I was losing my motivation.
At that time I turned to some of the mentors from Pathways I asked them for advice and told them that I really needed a job, and fast. The next week I received a call from Mr. Shakeel Ali, the Director Of Development he said that there was a start-up software company that needed an office assistant and that he had mentioned my name and set me up an interview. After I went in and interviewed I was quickly hired and I started work that same week. Ripple Effects Inc. is an educational software company which produces character development software to try and help people. I love working for Ripple Effects, it has been a good fit for me here. The jobs I had before were remedial, food service and retail positions with little opportunity for learning or advancement. Now, with my new job, I have much more responsibility and direct experience that I can carry over into a career in a business office. Also, I’m learning a lot about all the aspects of running a company from scratch. I feel so lucky to have this job and its all thanks to
Pathways For Kids.
