What is the Coaches in the Classroom program?
There are three objectives for the program:
1. Inspire academic achievement
2. Expose career opportunities
3. Sign up students for Pathways “Coaches in the Classroom” Activities.
Is there a minimum time commitment?
Each classroom visit is approximately one hour. Just let your Pathways Program Coordinator know how many hours you would like to donate in any given month. We will work with your stated preferences.
What age group will I be working with?
Pathways currently works with middle schools, high schools and after-school programs. Let your Program Coordinator know your preferences and we will make it happen.
Will I work with the same classroom more than once?
We can arrange it so A) you visit a variety of different classrooms, or B) you focus on particular classroom visits or other Career Exploration Activities.
Pathways works individually with each classroom and teacher. Accordingly, each relationship is customized to fit the classroom’s goals. This translates into a host of different opportunities, some are “one timers” and others are “on-going.”
Does my commitment end in the classroom?
Through our Career Exploration Activities (CEA’s) and Coaches in the Workplace program, students have the chance to get an even closer look at a particular career whether in class or in the workplace. We find that many students are interested in taking the next step and meeting with one of our Career Coaches in the working environment. CEA’s allows students the opportunity to talk one-to-one with a person in a career field they are interested in. It is optional as to whether our coaches participate on this level.
Are there any special requirements to work with the kids?
Policy dictates that all volunteers must be fingerprinted prior to working with students off school property.
